Careers in taxation & business law

Taxation

A degree or a major in taxation or a double major in taxation and accounting can be a platform for a career in the tax division or the small and medium enterprises division of major and mid tier accounting or legal firms, or in government departments such as the Australian Taxation Office.

A double major in taxation and finance or a double major in taxation and economics can be a platform for a career in investment banking, corporate finance and in government departments such as the Australian Treasury.

Depending on your background, a Master of Taxation degree can equip you for a career in a tax division of major and mid tier accounting or legal firms or with government departments such as the Australian Taxation Office and the Australian Treasury.

Business law

A double major in business law does not qualify you to be admitted to legal practice. However, a combination of a double major in business law with a double major in another commerce specialisation will add significant value to your level of expertise and qualify you for a range of positions in business, government and professional practice.

For instance, the following are just some of the careers that would be enhanced by a double major in business law: management consultant, marketing manager, company secretary, regulatory compliance officer, business analyst, or accountant.
