Australia is renowned for its sporting prowess and watching live sport could also be considered a national pastime. Sporting events can be watched live on television in pubs across Sydney or at sports grounds such as the Sydney Cricket Ground and ANZ Stadium. During spring and autumn you can also attend horse racing events at Royal Randwick Race Club which is located next to UNSW.

Playing sport is a great way to meet new people when you have moved to a new city. The UNSW Sport and Recreation Centre has a variety of social sports and sports clubs for students to get involved in. You might also want to consider competing in the Australian University Games, which is an excellent opportunity to meet students from around the country.

With UNSW located near Coogee Beach, there are plenty of opportunities for snorkelling, scuba diving or surfing, as well as horse riding, bush walking, and golf.

Randwick – 1.5 KM from UNSW

Located within easy walking distance from UNSW Randwick contains of variety of reasonable priced dining options that include Thai, Italian, Indian and Spanish

Chinatown – 6KM from UNSW

Sydney's Chinatown is famous for its Yum Cha and specialist food stores.

Newtown - 6.6 KM from UNSW

Known for its youthful and lively culture, Newtown has affordable restaurants showcasing cuisines from Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, India, China, Africa, as well as traditional Aussie fare in pubs, boutique bars and cafés.

Spanish Quarter - 5.5 KM from UNSW

Located in the CBD the Spanish Quarter is famous for its tapas and flamenco performances. At the Spanish Club, you can even take Spanish dance (flamenco, salsa, tango) and Spanish language lessons.

Norton Street - 10.2 KM from UNSW

Norton Street in Leichhardt is the place to go for Italian cuisine and culture in Sydney and you will be spoilt for choice of pizza, pasta and gelato.

Sydney has a vibrant live music scene playing in pubs and venues across the city. Bigger acts and concerts featuring touring international performers are generally at larger venues. You can normally purchase tickets to music performances online.
