I’ve met inspiring women through the program, learned new skills and been empowered to address some complex leadership challenges. I am clearer about my strengths, my learning edges and my leadership priorities. I chose the program because I wanted to better understand the leadership challenges that are specific to being a woman. I now have a clearer framework for describing these challenges and a positive pathway forward for developing my leadership capacity.

The Women In Leadership course provided an excellent balance of theoretical application and practical sessions to really help further develop my leadership capability. On a personal level, the sessions we participated in on executive presence were so rewarding. It meant taking the time to reflect on your presence when “on show” so to speak. How you portray yourself via presence and body language is something we all need to be aware off and having some key strategies for this has been really helpful. At the time of concluding the course, I was in transition into a new role and it has been great to take some of the learning to my new organisation and I’m looking forward to utilising those insights and skills further.

The discussions, the one-on-one coaching and the networking were incredible. It was the pathway to my next step. The first tangible from the program (was) the courage and affirmation of my voice and the second was how my role as a State Manager has changed.

As an Aboriginal female leader, I am constantly walking in two worlds. I continue to walk with the elders to ensure that I take in and capture as much as possible from their traditional wisdom. My hope is to bring those worlds together through mutual engagement and true consultation. We all come with our own script – the challenge is to find the common ground. Since completing the program I feel more confident about my effectiveness. There’s also legitimacy to my leadership because I know that my practices reflect my claims and commitments.
