This course aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the financial environments in Asia. It first introduces the important principles of finance, banking and insurance, and then delves into specific markets to discuss their institutional, cultural and financial characteristics. Recent events such as the Asian Currency Crisis and China joining the WTO are also discussed. The course should appeal to students with a non-finance background (or doing a non-finance-related degree) who are interested in expand their future career into the financial world, or who plan to work in the Asia-Pacific region, or who simply want to enrich their expertise with a broad understanding of international financial markets.
