Meet Nidal Danoun

Financial planning subject matter expert Nidal Danoun is an entrepreneurial company director, government consultant and Certified Financial Planner (CFP) curriculum advisor.

A passionate educator, Nidal Danoun says financial planning is critically important as a roadmap to achieving goals and objectives – such as maintaining an aspirational lifestyle throughout a working life and in retirement.

With over twenty years’ industry experience in financial services, Nidal has worked and consulted with Australia’s major banks, large financial institutions, investment banks, accounting firms and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC).

Nidal performs compliance audits, advises organisations on education and professional development, and facilitates the achievement of regulatory obligations and robust risk management frameworks. His company, Prosperity Financial Services, provides advice on compliance, risk, practice management and advice remediation.

“Through my experience in the field I have experienced the profound impact advice has on individuals, families and the overall economy. These impacts have been mostly positive, however, unfortunately we have experienced the negative consequences of these impacts with failed advice,” he says.

“I feel strongly about transferring my passion for financial planning to students to challenge them, motivate them and empower them to gain an appreciation of the practical application of financial advice. Hopefully this will encourage them to be more engaged and help make them better professionals in the field.”

As an active member of the financial planning profession, Nidal is a regular presenter and moderator at ethics, investment, superannuation, tax and financial planning seminars. He has contributed to the development of curriculums including the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) program and has served on the boards of professional education committees within the Tax Institute, the Financial Planning Association of Australia (FPA), the CFP, and the Self-Managed Super Fund (SMSF) Association.

In 2020, Nidal will be teaching financial planning online with UNSW Business School. He likes how the flexibility of online learning can broaden and increase the number of participants, and he looks forward to running interactive classes. Nidal’s advice for his students is to be engaged.

“Seek help at any time you need help, try your best and most importantly make sure you get to enjoy the course,” he says.

Nidal is a Chartered Accountant & SMSF Specialist, Fellow CPA Financial Planning Specialist, Certified Financial Planner, Chartered Tax Adviser, Registered Tax Agent, and a member of the CFA Institute and the SMSF Association.
