ACCOUNTING CONFERENCES COME HOME TO SYDNEY

The School of Accounting are co-hosting two premier events this month. The academic research conferences, rotate around the world at the home countries of the partner universities, but this year both will be held by UNSW Business School in Sydney.

In its 23rd year, the International Symposium for Audit Research (ISAR) has four partners including UNSW; University of Southern California (United States), Maastricht University (Netherlands), Nanyang Technological (Singapore).

Professor Elizabeth Carson (School of Accounting) said “ISAR is the leading international auditing and assurance conference in the world. Sponsored by leading universities from North America, Europe, Asia and Australia, it brings together the world’s top auditing researchers and auditing regulators to foster and encourage research which impacts the truly global auditing and assurance profession. The research presented aims to inform global regulators and standard setters as well as global audit firm networks. In particular, the role of professional scepticism and ethics as well as using economic theory to inform practice and regulation will form the focus of our symposium this year.”

The Global Management Accounting Research Symposium (GMARS), now in its 14th year, rotates around Denmark and US and Sydney (Copenhagen Business School, Michigan State University and UNSW).

Associate Professor Jane Baxter stated “The conference will be attended by researchers from Europe, the U.S.A, Canada, Africa and Australasia. GMARS aims to promote a ‘global village’ of management accounting research, bringing together a diverse set of the highest quality research papers, plenary speakers and researchers from around the world. It is supported by CIMA International, CPA Australia, Journal of Management Accounting Research, AFAANZ, and the School of Accounting, UNSW Sydney.

Both conferences are sponsored by professional bodies, attended by top researchers and are well recognized in their respective fields.
