PhD graduates in Auditing from the Australian School of Business were ranked No. 1 worldwide in Accounting by the American Accounting Association.

The study Accounting Horizons 25.1 reviewed Accounting Doctoral Program Rankings based on the worldwide research productivity of PhD graduates.

The research examined whether PhD students go on to publish their research in the major quality journals in their discipline. The Accounting Horizon paper looked at publications in 11 major international journals, for publications three and six years out of PhD attainment.

The Australian School of Business Auditing researchers ranked second for three years out and first for six years after PhD attainment, for PhD students graduating from 2001-2009. PhD graduates ranked 30th overall for publishing within three years, and 25th overall for publishing six years after graduation.

Professor Roger Simnett, Associate Dean of Research at the Australian School of Business said: "The measure of quality in this research shows that we are producing graduates of the highest calibre. The success of Accounting Auditing researchers suggests that we are doing something right with our PhD program. It is an outstanding achievement and we are proud of the result."

This achievement follows the recent Academic Board Forum which took place on 4 October 2011. At the event, academics reviewed the UNSW PhD and discussed new approaches and intended outcomes for current PhD programs.
