Meet the CEO event for 2013, John Borghetti, CEO and Managing Director, Virgin Australia discusses aviation, infrastructure and the power of branding to an audience of Australian School of Business alumni and guests.
Special guest interviewer, Mark Scott, Managing Director of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and ASB Advisory Board member, led John Borghetti through an engaging conversation that covered the strategic rebranding of Virgin Blue and the fascinating realties of working with one of the world's most recognisable brands.
The Virgin Australia Chief attributes the success of the Virgin rebrand to the company's exemplary staff.
"Everybody flies in the same tube at 35,000 feet....the only thing that makes an airline different is the people inside the tube that serve you," he says.
John Borghetti also discussed his career journey which included working in the family café business from age 10. Here he learnt salesmanship and crucially, how to 'read' customers.
"That's what life is all about - reading people. It's understanding where a person is coming from and then deciding if you want to do something about it - if you don't understand them, that's impossible," he says.
