Most of us instinctively agree that research and innovation are major driving forces behind long-term productivity and economic growth.

A new report for the first time confirms this widespread belief, stating the importance of innovation, science and research as critical drivers of productivity and the building of future industries in Australia. But this report comes just as estimates suggest Australian Governments investment in science has reached a 30-year low with cuts to university research budgets also taking effect.

Professor Kevin Fox discusses the importance of boosting national R&D and the most effective use of public funds to do this in the Learn@Lunch talk series.

Professor Kevin Fox, Director at the Centre for Applied Economic Research, is a leading expert on productivity growth.
