Professor Ron Masulis appointed Macquarie Group Chair in Financial Services

Eminent finance scholar, UNSW Scientia Professor Ron Masulis, has been appointed as Macquarie Group Chair in Financial Services at the Australian School of Business.

Professor Masulis is one of the world's foremost authorities in the field of empirical corporate finance and an expert on corporate governance issues. During his career he has been very influential in shaping the current state of corporate governance research.

Professor Geoffrey Garrett, Dean of the Australian School of Business said: 'We are delighted that Professor Masulis has been appointed to the Macquarie Group professorial chair and I'm particularly grateful to Macquarie Group for their significant funding. The research Professor Masulis plans to continue to pursue includes a broad range of corporate governance issues such as boards of directors, executive compensation, takeover defences, ownership structures and shareholder voting rights. It will also span the areas of banking, private equity, venture capital, international finance, and law and economics.'

Professor Masulis is one of the highest ranked financial economists in terms of sustained top tier publications and citations across a range of leading academic journals including the Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Accounting and Economics and Journal of Law and Economics.

He is ranked one of the top 100 most prolific authors in finance for the last 50 years, based on publications in seven leading academic journals in Finance. He is also ranked one of the top 60 business school scholars in the world according to the Social Science Research Network ( with over 40,000 downloads of his research papers.

He has served on the Board of Directors/Executive Committee of the American Finance Association, the Western Finance Association and the Financial Management Association. He currently serves as an advisory editor of Financial Management, associate editor of the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis and the Pacific-Basin Finance Journal and is past associate editor of all three top finance journals. He is also a research associate at the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI) and senior academic fellow at the Asia Bureau of Finance and Economic Research.
