Roger Simnett and Kathleen Bentley-Goode recognised by the American Accounting Association

Professor Roger Simnett has received the American Accounting Association Auditing Section, Outstanding Educator Award
Professor Simnett was recognised for the significant role he has played in building capacity in academia and beyond.He has nurtured and grown the next generation of senior auditing academics in Australia. Four of his PhD students are now Professors at leading universities in Australia.
He has been a strong contributor to teaching at UNSW Australia throughout his career with consistently outstanding ratings in undergraduate auditing and doctoral coursework, as well as the development of new subjects in assurance services and corporate governance.
Professor Simnett has been acknowledged at both School and Faculty level for his teaching achievements. He has also been rated as the most outstanding Accounting instructor in the MBA program and in 2008 Roger was awarded the Outstanding Research Supervision Award at the UNSW Business School.
As part of the award, Roger was also recognised for his leadership role in national and international standard setting and regulation over the last twenty years, including two terms on the Australian Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (1995-1999). He was the first academic member to serve on the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB 2002-2005), Chair of the Sustainability Expert Advisory Panel of the International Federation of Accountants (2006-2012), co-chair of the IAASB task force developing a global assurance standard on greenhouse gas emissions (2008-2012), and a member of the Working Group of the International Integrated Reporting Council (2011-2014).
Dr Kathleen Bentley-Goode was also acknowledged for her service as an outstanding reviewer at the journal Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory.
It is the leading specialist auditing research journal. This award is for reviewers who have delivered quality on-time reviews and whose input has been highly valued by the Editorial team.
