Speedy evening of alumni/student networking a great success
Friday, 20 May 2011
Undergraduate students learn from Australian School of Business alumni at Business Buzz, a speed networking event held on 3 May 2011.
Now in its second year, Business Buzz is an opportunity for selected Australian School of Business students to meet with alumni to discuss career options, aspirations and the realities of working life after university. Alumni drawn from a broad range of career types and industry sectors volunteered to attend the event to help guide the next generation of business professionals.
Business Buzz was kindly hosted by PwC and Joseph Carrozzi (BCom/LLB), Managing Partner, at the company’s Sydney office. Thirty alumni and thirty students took their place around a table for a series of one-on-one 10-minute conversations in the facilitated ‘speed’ networking style. Students spoke with five separate alumni during the networking session, enquiring about their careers and asking questions about employment options and how to harness opportunities.
The evening was a chance for students to hone their networking skills while expanding the career options. Business student Andrew Ta said the event is a must for all pending graduates.
"Business Buzz is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who wants to break into the commercial sector. It provides a great chance to develop soft-skills whilst building confidence - two essential elements of networking and job interviews!
"I was fortunate enough to talk to alumni from a range of backgrounds, some working their way up the corporate ladder into senior positions and others who broke free of the mould and started their own business. Through the personal guidance given in the discussions, everyone was able take away something valuable that will help them on the journey towards their future careers", he said.
