Kerry Humphreys conducts behavioural research investigating when managers make effective decisions incorporating strategic performance information (particularly from the balanced scorecard framework), and how new managers can learn to make better decisions using this information. Her research examines a variety of management judgments and decisions, including performance evaluation, risk management, strategy evaluation and resource allocation in dynamic business environments. Kerry's PhD research received the American Accounting Association (AAA) Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award from the Accounting, Behavior and Organizations section.

About Kerry

Kerry researches and teaches on strategic management accounting at the UNSW Australia Business School, as well as supervising research students in the MPhil and PhD programs. Her research interests are in behavioural management accounting, particularly managers' use of strategic performance information to make performance evaluation, risk management, strategy evaluation and dynamic business decisions.

Kerry regularly presents at local and international accounting conferences, and her work has been published in leading academic journals The Accounting Review, Accounting: Organizations and Society and the Journal of Management Accounting Research. Kerry is former Director and a current User Group member of the UNSW Business School's experimental research laboratory (BizLab), and a member of its Behavioural Insights for Business and Policy (BIBAP) research network. Her research has received external funding from the Accounting & Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand (AFAANZ) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).

Kerry has received various national and university teaching awards for her curricula development and teaching. At a national level, she has been awarded an Australian Learning & Teaching Council (ALTC) Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning and the Pearson Education Accounting/Finance Lecturer of the Year for delivering a strategy+numbers approach using experiential education. Within UNSW Australia, Kerry is the recipient of a Vice-Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence, as well as UNSW Business School awards for Excellence in Team Teaching and a Dean's Commendation for Contributions to Teaching.

Kerry is a Chartered Accountant (CA) and, prior to her appointment at UNSW Australia, was a Senior Strategy Consultant with IBM Global Business Services. Kerry has also worked with PwC in the Consulting and Corporate Finance divisions.
