About Chris

Chris Brown (MCom ’01) relocated to Silicon Valley to pursue a career in marketing consulting and recently published a critically acclaimed book, The Customer Culture Imperative.

I made my career choice because...

From a young age I always had an interest in economics, business and in particular marketing. My father was a big influence being a Marketing Professor at UNSW for many years.

If I had known then what I know now, I would have…

I recently published a new book on Customer Centricity (The Customer Culture Imperative). If I had known what a positive impact the book has had on my business I would have written it earlier.

As a student I…

Really enjoyed hearing the stories of successful and unsuccessful business strategies, what made one business soar while another flailed. It's those contrasts that really helped me understand the complex mix of factors that drive great business performances and provided inspiration for the consulting work I do today.

My most impressive achievement is…

On a professional level it was great to complete the Masters program at UNSW Australia Business School. I am also proud to have been able to take my business from Sydney to the US. Running a marketing consulting firm in the US is a little bit like selling ice to the eskimos. The US has a long tradition of incredible marketing campaigns and thought leadership, so for an Australian to go over and consult and run workshops it is a big challenge. My new book is published by the world's largest business book publisher, McGraw-Hill in New York. It was a great milestone to have their support to launch our book globally. We are in bookshops in places as varied as New York to Hobart Tasmania and everywhere in between....

On a personal level completing six Ironman Triathlons and running the Boston Marathon in a PB of 2hrs 42.

At the moment I’m inspired by...

My grandmother who just turned 100 years of age and has published 3 books of Poetry (she started writing when she was 85)

Others say I…

I am a good listener, fair minded, down to earth and stay focused on what's most important in life, my wife, family and good friends.

My greatest goal that I’m yet to achieve…

I have a dream of one day completing a PhD at one of the major US universities such as Stanford, Wharton or Harvard.

You might be surprised to know that I...

I recently completed the training for the US VFR Private Pilots license
