Elaine Collins officially joined UNSW Business School as an esteemed Professor of Practice in October 2018, following her role as a sessional lecturer in Actuarial Studies since 2016. She is responsible for working closely with academics to integrate scholarly achievement with practical experience for students, and for bridging the connection between students and industry members.
Elaine is currently a Non-Executive Director at both Zurich Insurance and the Motor Accidents Insurance Board (MAIB). She chairs both the Risk, Compliance & Audit Committee at Zurich, and the MAIB Audit Committee. She is also a Board Member of the Australian Reinsurance Pool Corporation (ARPC), and serves on the Compliance & Audit Committee.
She has previously held roles including Public Policy Strategist at the Actuaries Institute, Partner & Leader of general insurance actuarial team at Deloitte, and general insurance actuarial team Director at KPMG. She has worked on aligning Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) prudential standards and Institute professional requirements.
Through her work on Actuaries' Institute committees and taskforces, and by providing consulting services to businesses across the Asia-Pacific, Elaine has built a corporate network of local industry leaders and experts, including senior industry connections in life insurance, general insurance, health, superannuation and banking and the government actuary.
Elaine has authored actuarial papers at Institute conferences and conventions, and represented KPMG, Deloitte, Zurich Insurance, MAIB, ARPC in thought leadership panels and conference presentations. She informally mentors Actuarial students to realise their career opportunities, including delivering a keynote address at the annual Institute GI Glimpse Seminar for young Members in 2017.
