About Fiona

Fiona Balfour is an independent non-executive director with an executive background in information technology. She has worked extensively in Aviation, Infrastructure, Information Services, Distribution and Logistics, Telecommunications, and not-for-profits. She is a passionate advocate for the role of technology in business-driven innovation.

Fiona has over 19 years’ experience as a non-executive director. Her current roles are with Metcash Limited (ASX:MTS), Western Sydney Airport Co., Airservices Australia and The Australian Red Cross Blood Service. She is also a nominee director for the Public Sector Investment Board of Canada at Land Services South Australia. Previous NED roles include: Nominees Director for Qantas on ‘Société Internationale de Télécommunications Aéronautiques (‘SITA’)’, Geneva, 2001-06; Trustee of the National Breast Cancer Foundation, 2007-10; Councillor of Chief Executive Women, 2006 -09 and 2012-13; Chair of the St James’ King Street Conservation Appeal, 2011-14; Council Member and Treasurer of Knox Grammar School, Wahroonga, 2009-15; Independent Non-Executive Director TAL (Dai-ichi Life) Australia 2010-16 – previously ASX listed as Tower Australia; and Independent Non-Executive Director Salmat Limited (ASX:SLM) 2010 – 2018.

As a director, Fiona has had oversight of acquisitions, mergers, divestments, schemes-of-arrangement, capital raisings and dealings with various regulatory bodies on local and global boards. She has a wide variety of committee experience, including Chairmanship across Remuneration, People and Culture; Technology and Innovation; Aviation Safety; Audit and Risk; and Nominations processes. She has participated in CEO, Board and Key Executive (under APRA requirements) recruitment processes in each organisation.

Fiona has had extensive ‘C’ Suite experience with significant technology, line management (3,500 FTEs) and budget accountabilities ($3.9 billion in 2007 dollars). She has operational and strategic expertise in ‘industrial strength’ enterprise global business solutions and real-time global customer systems using a wide variety of technologies across her career. She has large scale program and delivery experience and is widely regarded for her commercial skills. Her extensive line management expertise has allowed Fiona to develop extensive leadership, staff engagement and organisational transformation capabilities.
