Academic

In April, Dr Anna Schneider from the University of Innsbruck, Austria, visited the IRRC to consult with Associate Professor Anne Junor on the latter's work on gender pay equity. Associate Professor Junor arranged a consultation with researchers from the Workplace Gender Equality Agency and networking with the Jessie Street foundation. They planned a future research joint stream.

In 2017, Professor PN Junankar worked with Professor Piotr Żuk from the University of Wrocław, Poland and the Centre for Civil Rights and Democracy Research, Wrocław, Poland to apply for a research grant to undertake a comparative study of migrant workers.

Community

The IRRC continued its collaboration with government, community organisations and unions in a number of research projects.

The IRRC worked with Regional Development Australia Sydney in developing a proposal for a Manufacturing Lighthouse, the design of which was developed in response to an earlier survey of Western Sydney engineering manufacturers undertaken by the IRRC. The IRRC helped fund the writing of the business for NSW government funding of a digital platform providing a one-stop shop for manufacturers to access information on innovation and R&D, digital technologies, supply chains, grants, IR, HR, training and skills, finance, etc. and connect with the right service, program or research organization. Stakeholders include CSIRO, Industry Capability Network (ICN), Deloitte, NSW Business Chamber, Southern Strength Manufacturing Cluster, Regional Development Australia, Sydney, Manufacturing Skills Australia (MSA), UNSW Industrial Relations Research Centre, University of Technology School of Business, Department of Industry, Advance AM, Food Innovation Australia Limited (FIAL), and Western Sydney University.

IRRC Associates Ian Hampson and Anne Junor served on the Skills Committee of the Sydney Aerospace and Defence Interest group.
